CH-UH School Facility Master Plan Community Meeting #1

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Heights High Social Room 13263 Cedar Road
All residents are invited to the start of the next phase of a critically important process that will help plan our School District’s facilities for the future.
The Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District will hold the first public meeting of the Master Planning Team, partnering with architects Fielding Nair, Fanning Howey and studio TECHNE. This meeting is a continuation of the excellent work that came out of the School Facilities Committee – a group that consisted of fifty residents, teachers, and administrators.
The November 30 meeting will:
- Provide an overview of the district’s educational vision;
- Describe the planning process that has been undertaken; and
- Provide residents an opportunity to assist in defining priorities and goals.
This meeting, and following meetings, will provide a forum for the community to state their priorities and share their hopes, so that our schools become beacons for the community.
We encourage you to bring your entire family to share in this exciting process. Food will be provided, and activities have been developed specifically for your children so that you and they can actively participate in planning their schools.

I would like to suggest the consolidation of the middle schools, perhaps into a 5-6 bldg and a 7-8 bldg. With our smaller population I do not think it makes sense to stretch those students out. We do not have enough students at each school for advanced classes, advanced music, sports, or even ELA. We push students classes that they are not ready for in order to fill a class, which hold back the students who are prepared for that material. We mix our music levels, which basically makes it a waste of time for our advanced musicians. We have teachers dedicated to ELA whether there are 20 students in detention that day or 5.
By bringing those grades together from the 3 middle schools, we would be able to strengthen our upper level classes as well bring the students up to grade level who are running behind.

I agree. Consolodating will not only benefit our children educationally, but perhaps it will improve diversity as well.
